Scoutloop is operated by Adanac Alpine Advisory Inc., a company incorporated under the laws of British Columbia, Canada. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how it is handled when you use Scoutloop at scoutloop.me and related domains and applications that we operate.
We are responsible for the personal information we hold. Questions about this policy can be sent to support@scoutloop.me.
Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and a securely hashed password. You may optionally provide a display name and a default home location.
Trip and usage information. When you use Scoutloop, we store the trip plans you create (destinations, dates, activity type, group size, and notes) and the destinations you search for, so we can show you your history and saved trips.
Notification settings. If you enable email or Telegram notifications, we store your preferences and use your email address or Telegram account to deliver alerts. We do not send marketing messages unless you separately opt in.
Local storage. We use your browser's localStorage to cache briefing results for up to 60 minutes for performance. This data stays on your device and is not sent to our servers.
Diagnostics. We collect limited usage and error data (pages visited, feature interactions, and error reports) to operate and improve the service. This is described under “Analytics” below.
We do not collect payment information. We do not collect precise real-time location unless you choose to enter a location, and we do not sell your personal data.
Your data is used solely to provide and improve Scoutloop — authenticating your account, saving and sharing your trips, generating briefings, delivering the alerts you request, and supporting the services you use. We do not sell your personal data to third parties and do not use it for advertising.
Legal bases for processing personal information about you include performing the service you asked for, your consent (for example, where you enable notifications or opt in to marketing), and our legitimate interests in operating and improving the service, subject to your rights described below.
Scoutloop fetches publicly available data from government and third-party sources so we can build your briefing. When you search for a destination, our servers query these services on your behalf. Your account information is never shared with them.
We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand how Scoutloop is used. Product and feature analytics are handled by PostHog in “identified only” mode and include no session recordings. We do not link analytics events to your identity unless you are signed in, and analytics data is not used for advertising.
When you share a trip plan, we generate a short-lived invite link. Anyone with the link can view that plan without an account until it expires or you revoke it. Only the information you chose to share is visible, and we do not use shared plans for any other purpose.
We use industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit, hashed passwords, database access controls, and restricted staff access. No method of transmission or storage is fully secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data and saved trips, generally within 30 days. Anonymised usage data may be retained longer for analytical and security purposes.
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time. You can export your saved trips from the Settings page, and you can delete your account from Settings at any time. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below. You may also have the right to complain to a privacy regulator, such as the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted to this page with an updated date. For material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you, such as by email or a notice within the service. Continued use of Scoutloop after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
